Stand up has been present throughout my life but I never considered it something that I could do. I had the perception that stand-up was completely improvised and I thought, “well I can’t do that.” But if somebody had told me that it was mostly written, I think I would’ve said, “ well I can’t do that.” Either way I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t improvise and I couldn’t write, yet every time I watched comedy specials I would imagine myself as the person on stage getting the laughs. Because I’m delusional.

I hated writing. I never wrote essays in school. Every time I had to write an essay in class I would turn in a blank piece of paper with my name on it. I was pretty slow at formulating ideas and translating them into words. Like, actually retarded. My parents came over to this country so that I can have a good education and I graduated high school not knowing how to write.

Four years after high school I decided to give college a try. When I made that decision I also made the decision to write practice essays before applying. That’s when I fell in love with writing. I joke about being autistic but I wrote essays for fun. Over time I began writing other things. I wrote poems, short stories, comic books, tv scripts, hello kitty erotica…

I wrote my first few jokes in 2017 but I never got on stage. I didn’t even know open mics were a thing. I also still thought I couldn’t do it. Then in February 2021 I visited a friend in San Antonio and while we were hanging out she asked me where I saw myself in 5 years and I realized I didn’t have a real answer. Immediately I was pretty bummed because I knew I didn’t want to keep doing what I was doing. But I also didn’t know what I wanted to do. Then in the summer of 2021 I started to watch a show called Kill Tony. It’s essentially an open mic. I watched people suck a thousand dicks on stage and some of them were so delusional that they actually thought they did well. And I thought, “well I could do THAT.”
